Amazon listing suppressed: causes and how to fix it

Published October 13, 2026

A suppressed (“search suppressed”) Amazon listing still exists but no longer appears in search and browse results – usually because of a data problem: a main image that breaks the image rules, missing required attributes, title problems or missing product safety (GPSR) data. Seller Central shows the exact reason per listing; once you correct the data, the listing normally returns within hours.

Suppressed, inactive, blocked: what is the difference?

StatusWhat it means
Search suppressedThe offer exists and may even be buyable via a direct link, but buyers cannot find it in search or browse. Cause: data quality or completeness.
InactiveThe offer is switched off – for example no stock, a closed offer, or a price Amazon flagged as a potential pricing error.
Blocked or removedAmazon has taken the product down for a policy, safety or intellectual property reason. This goes through Account Health and usually needs documents or an appeal.

Suppression is the easiest of the three to fix, because it is about the listing data you control.

Where to see suppressed listings

  • Inventory → Manage All Inventory: at the top, open “Search suppressed and inactive listings”. This opens the Fix your products page with the reason and the fix for each listing.
  • In the inventory list itself, the “Suppressed” status is clickable and leads directly to what is wrong with that ASIN.
  • Performance → Account Health: policy and product compliance issues, including requests for documents.
  • Fix price alerts (reachable from the inventory and pricing menus): offers deactivated for a potential pricing error, shown as “Inactive (pricing error)”.

Menu names change from time to time and differ slightly between the English and German interfaces (Lagerbestand → Gesamten Lagerbestand verwalten), but the path via the inventory remains the starting point.

The most common reasons and how to fix them

ReasonFix
Main image missing or non-compliantUpload a photo of the actual product on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), filling about 85 % of the frame, without text, logos, borders or watermarks; at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side so zoom works. Upload under a new file name.
Required attributes missingThe reason names the attribute (for example brand, product type, colour, size, material, item weight). Fill it in on the edit page or in the category listings report.
Title missing or invalidAdd the title or remove forbidden characters and repeated words – see Amazon title rules. A title over the 75-character limit alone does not suppress the listing: Amazon says such offers stay active and it rewrites the title instead.
Product safety data (GPSR) missingEnter manufacturer, EU responsible person (if the manufacturer is outside the EU) and safety information in the product safety attributes, and complete the GPSR declaration in Account Health.
Potential pricing errorCheck the price, correct it if needed, and set your own minimum and maximum price under Fix price alerts.
Compliance documents requestedUpload the requested documents in Account Health – for example the EU declaration of conformity, test reports or safety data sheets. The listing stays down until Amazon accepts them.
Prohibited claimsRemove the flagged wording (for example “anti-bacterial”, “eco-friendly”) from title, bullet points and description.

Product safety data: a frequent cause since December 2024

Since 13 December 2024, Article 19 of the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 requires every online offer of a consumer product to show the manufacturer’s name, postal and electronic address, the EU responsible person if the manufacturer is not established in the EU, information identifying the product (image, type, batch or serial number) and any warnings or safety information.

Amazon asks for this data at two levels: once for your account (in Account Health, under the product compliance information, section GPSR) and per product in the safety attributes. Amazon marks listings without it as non-compliant and can remove them from sale. Do not put these details into the bullets or description – they belong in the dedicated fields. More on content and format: GPSR for online listings; the GPSR generator prepares the text block.

How long until the listing is back

Amazon does not publish a fixed time. In practice:

  • edits in Seller Central to an editable field (image, attribute, title): usually from a few minutes to a few hours;
  • changes uploaded through a report or flat file: Amazon gives about eight hours for title updates via the category listings report;
  • catalogue conflicts (another seller or the brand controls the detail page) and document reviews: days rather than hours.

If the listing is still suppressed after 24 hours and the reason has not changed, open a case in Seller Support with the ASIN, what you changed and a screenshot.

How to prevent suppression

  • Check the main image against Amazon’s image rules before every upload, especially after switching photographer or tool.
  • Fill in every required attribute of the product type, not just the ones the form shows first.
  • Keep titles at 75 characters or fewer and free of forbidden characters.
  • Have GPSR data ready per product before listing it in the EU.
  • Keep supplier texts out of your listings until they have been checked for prohibited claims.
  • Look at the “Search suppressed” filter once a week, and after every bulk upload.

Check your listing before you upload

The free listing check catches the text causes before Amazon does: title length and characters, repeated words, bullet count and length, prohibited claims and contact details. It cannot see your images, attributes or GPSR fields – check those in Seller Central. For the title alone, use the title checker.
